Neuroscientists believe that one of the main causes of psychological symptoms and distress need not point to ‘imbalanced chemicals’ but rather implicit memories in the emotional centres of our brains. We need to assist in transforming these symptom-generating implicit memories through the process of reconsolidation. The more vividly something can be remembered, the more changeable it becomes. When we activate memory, yet associate it with new information, distressing memories can be reconsolidated. This is done through compassionate attention either from a therapist or practicing self compassion while connecting with painful memories or negative core beliefs. That juxtaposition is a recipe for healing on a molecular level. The results, when activating self compassion and practicing mindfulness, are literally mind blowing. This can change the way you think, feel and experience your past, your present and your future. Come, join me, the time is now.
